Party at Home!

I was home today relaxing after eating way too much turkey and I found myself watching Father of the Bride once again. Now I have seen this movie so much that I cold probably recite it to you but that is not why I am writing.
I thought I would share some tips for having a home wedding.
I had the privilege of planning a home wedding last year and it turned out to be my favorite! It was beautiful but it took a lot of time and effort from the team we had hired to pull it off.
First, the family just thought it would happen. Big mistake. Home weddings take more planning than you think. Hire an event planner - where ever you are in the planning process. If you can not find one, here are some invaluable tips.
* Make sure you have the room to hold the event
* You will have to
rent tables, chairs, table linens, china, silverware, glassware, etc.
Most venues (hotels and such) include this already in the price for the event.
* Parking for guests - do you have to have a permit and do you have room for each car?
* Tent - in case of rain. Do you have room to erect a large enough tent for the guest list?
* Music - will the neighbors understand?
* What if something happens to a guest - sickness, falling, etc.
* Alcohol - if you want to serve, can you? You will need to hire a bar tending service.
* Will you need additional electrical p
ower?
* Bathrooms anyone? No port-o-toilets please!

That is just a few things to think about before saying yes to a home wedding. If you do, remember your checklists! Or better yet, HIRE an event planner!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone!

As I get ready to eat turkey at my in-laws, I would like to write a little note before I go.

I usually spend this time with my family and I miss them greatly. Since this is the first time in 10 years my husband has had the holiday off, I thought we would spend it with his family. We have had some pretty funny things happen with the family that made us all laugh prior to dinner, and I thought to myself how thankful I was I have this time with his family. The stories will stay with us and I will always laugh when I think of them.

So I leave you with this....Always have fun where ever you end up and always be THANKFUL for the people around you!

Easy Entertaining

Well, here it is. My blog. I am an event planner and thought I would start by sharing ideas with you about the event world.
You may think that you are not an event planner but if you have a family, you plan events all the time - birthday's, family outings, holiday parties, etc.
I have a niece that is turning one in a few weeks and my sister in law asked me today if I would help with the party. She also asked if she needed to have activities for the party.
Here is one idea that I thought of - a crawling contest - there will be other children there. What else can you do at a one year old birthday party besides smashing the cake??

Anyway - I will let you know who wins the crawl:)
